May 28th: New EuTRACE essay on CE & International Law
The essay by Alexander Proelss “climate engineering and international law: challenges for scientists and scholars” discusses if it is admissible to address the issue of climate engineering (CE) from a legal point of view. The author points out that currently there are no standards in international law for regulating research into and/or use of CE and therefore the risk posed by unilateral and/or unregulated, or even commercially-focused use of CE is given. He thus calls for a closer look of scholars and scientists to avoid the “blanket solution” whose implementation appears very remote.
